You Glided Down is the
latest effort from EX~PO. This two-song single documents EX~PO's
first attempt at recording as a live band in the studio.
Unlike previous EX~PO releases, band-leader Dean Marino does not
play all (or almost all) the instruments. Instead, he directs
and collaborates. This "virtual 7-inch" includes two
tracks: Side A: You Glided Down / Side B: A Lot in Common
and is available on iTunes for $1.98. Download full-size

Central Meaner Street represents
the culmination of four years of life-experience, writing and
recording for Toronto-based musician Dean Marino (under the moniker
EX~PO). Dean describes EX~PO as: “well-crafted indie pop, filtered
through sunny vocal arrangements, fuzz-guitar, punchy rhythms with
psychedelic ‘studio-head’ tendencies.”
Upon listening Central Meaner, one will notice that
Dean has expanded his influences beyond his inherited and teenage
roots and while one can undoubtedly hear George Harrison and Brian
Wilson in his work, one can also find heavy traces of Sid Barrett,
Wayne Coyne, Kevin Shields, Jason Pierce, John McEntire and Elvis
Costello. |

If a full-length album is the musical
equivalent to a novel, then Harsh Lenses Point Homeward
is a novelette filled with characters who wallow in nostalgia,
lament for the past, suffer from religious hallucinations, jump from
rooftops, and spend hemp-hazed afternoons basking in the sensuous
summer sun.
Dean Marino (aka EX~PO), sets out to explore his own personal
musical/lyrical journey, alone in his bedroom, without unwanted
input or interruption. This debut EP, with its intimate vocal
tracks, lo-fi sound layers, partly sunny melodies and low-key
production, will surely get under your skin and crawl towards your
heartstrings. |
